If you are interested in wargaming and want fair play and reliable opponents, then AHIKS is for you. AHIKS is an international, nonprofit society whose members play board war games by email, real-time computer applications, ordinary postal mail, telephone, and other means of communication between remotely located players.
AHIKS was established to foster fair, fun, and friendly game play between the members. Our society maintains the highest standards of fair play so that our members will have the best gaming experience possible. We strive to encourage the building of friendships, relationships, and camaraderie among our members. In some cases our members have established lifelong friendships as a result of AHIKS.
We’re a half-century old. Indeed, AHIKS is the oldest non-local board wargames club. AHIKS was originally an acronym. It stood for “Avalon Hill Intercontinental Kriegspiel Society”. When AHIKS was established in March 1966, Avalon Hill (later The Avalon Hill Game Company) was the only company publishing board war games. Now there are thousands of board war games from hundreds of publishers; our members may play all of them.
Our success as a play-by-mail and play-by-email organization is based on our supply of mature, honest opponents.
Whether you use a computer gaming utility, email, or play war games by paper mail, AHIKS has systems available so that you can generate truly random die rolls that all players can confirm and trust to be honest.
Opponent wanted? AHIKS offers an Opponent Matching service through our Match Coordinator. You can be matched in as many or as few games as you can keep up with. To obtain a game match, email the Match Coordinator MatchCoordinator@AHIKS.com. Send your name, your email address, your membership number, the name of the game you want to play, and the codes (see end of this article) indicating which games you want to play and related details. There is also a Match Request Form on this web site. If an opponent is not immediately available, the match coordinator places your request on the listing on this web site, on our Facebook page, and adds it to his column in the next issue of The Kommandeur.
We publish a bimonthly newsletter, The Kommandeur, sent to all members as a PDF attachment. The newsletter contains hints on postal gaming, game reviews, play strategies. historical background, after-action reports, opinions, debates, news by and about the members and the hobby, new games published by game companies and, most important, a list of Open Match Requests for members seeking opponents.

Rules disputes?
AHIKS offers a Judge to help resolve any game rules issues that may develop. The Judge is there to provide impartial decisions. The judge maintaind a file of rules decisions in order to provide consistent rules interpretations for each game
Are You Missing Some Unit Counters?
The AHIKS Unit Counter Pool has spare counters for hundreds of war games, not to mention player aides, rule books and other accessories for members who are an item or two from the game they want to play.

Who does the work?
AHIKS officers are all volunteers. Eight of them are elected for four year terms in every leap year. The others are appointed by the President with the approval of our Executive Committee, the elected officers. as described in the bylaws.
